Breeding problems: Poor fry survival rate
Sex ratio: Roughly equal

Average success

Breeding Report: Fundulopanchax spoorenbergi

Spawning Method: Spawning Mops
Breeding problems: Poor egg production
Sex ratio: Roughly equal
Breeding difficulty: Average
Success: Average
Breeder: Patrick J. Coleman, USA (1 years experience with this species)
Date this record created: 17th April 2004
Breeding Report: Fundulopanchax spoorenbergi
Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic, 20-23oC
Spawning Method: Adult fish removed from tank
Breeding problems: Poor egg survival
Sex ratio: Roughly equal
Breeding difficulty: Easy
Success: Average
Other Comments: One fish may outcompete others for food and grow obese-feed tankmates in opposite corners. Most success spawning is over peat and mops for 2 weeks, feed well with livefood, change water a couple times with cooler water, then remove adults. Handling of eggs appears to damage them fatally. Got OK hatch rates with storing eggs on peat or storing mops in separate containers for water incubation without handling. Ok in community tank but again will hog the food even from more aggressive fish.
Breeder: Kate Breimayer, Olympia WA (2 years experience with this species)
Date this record created: 7th May 2004
Breeding Report: Fundulopanchax spoorenbergi
Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic, 24-27oC
Spawning Method: Long term (fry appear with adults)
Breeding problems: Poor egg production
Breeding difficulty: Easy
Success: Average
Other Comments: I set a pair up in a ten gallon tank which was thick with java moss, and had a peat bottom. They had 4 Fp cinnamomeum as tank mates. Within a few months, I noticed free swimming fry, later id'd as Fp spoorenbergi. The adult fish were fed only on frozen bloodworms with the occasional frozen brine shrimp or flake. By the time I noticed the fry, they were big enough to eat finely crushed flake.
