Sex ratio: Somewhat female heavy
Breeding difficulty: Easy

Other Comments: Water pH6, low hardness. Quite prolific, particularly at warmer temperatures. I now keep these on the top row of tanks in my fishroom at 25C.
Will spawn on mops, but I now leave them with a thin layer of peat fibre and a good growth of java moss. The fry grow on with the parents without problems.
Eggs are small, and fry fatalities will occur if infusoria is not available as I find that not all newly hatched fish will accept Artemia nauplii. This is another reason why I leave the fry with the adults in an 18"x12"x12" tank which supports sufficient minute organsims to get them through the first few days until they will accept the brine shrimp.
Breeder: Ian Allcroft BKA 157-06, Harrogate, North Yorkshire (2 years experience with this species)
Date this record created: 14th August 2002

Spawning Method: Spawning Mops
Breeding problems: Poor fry survival rate
Sex ratio: Somewhat male heavy
Breeding difficulty: Easy

Other Comments: Fry are very small and need to feed on infusoria for 1 - 2 weeks. Egg production slows down at lower temperatures <20C and stops at 18C. Best egg production at 24-26C. Tendency to eat some eggs. Young fish tend to produce infertile eggs for a while before getting the hang of it.
